A friend has been unemployed for 3 months. He had an interview yesterday and both his cars broke down with no money to repair them. He ran out of money. He is a single man with no dependents, around 30, has a good degree, worked for most of it and has had decent salaries. I told him he should have at least 6 months worth of money saved up, if not 12. I know some countries have some unemployment benefit of some sort and some countries let you pay in extra so you get paid out more - that can be good as people in higher professions can afford to wait for a better job instead of grabbing any old thing in the mean time.
